Daylight Saving Time Ends
Daylight Saving Time Ends
We’re approaching that time of the year again. We’re enjoying pumpkin spice and everything nice. The kids are all excited about visiting the pumpkin patch, Halloween, and hopefully we’ll start to see the weather cooling down a bit. Florida will you be participating in “Fall” this year??
So right as everyone is adjusting to sleep, here comes the end of Daylight Saving time. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 AM on November 3rd.
What does this all mean? This means that on November 3rd, 7AM is now 6AM, and 7PM is now 6PM. Remember before you had kids that this was the great time change as it meant you got one extra hour of sleep? Many of you remember those days!! Moving forward, now we have little ones in the mix and this “change” isn’t always fun or a walk in the park. We’ve got you covered and below we’ve put together some tips as to how to ease the transition for you and your kids.
Top 5 Tips for Daylight Saving Time
Tip #1 Know your Baby
You know your baby better than anyone else. When I say, know your baby, some babies just go with the flow easier than others. With some toddlers and children, they need a lot more “structure” than others and we help them with the time change in a different manner.
If your baby is 6 months or younger, I wouldn’t do anything. They will adjust must easier and it will only be more difficult on you and your baby if you’re “fighting” with the clock resulting in an over tired baby.
Tip #2 Shift your Baby’s Routine a Week Ahead of Time
When using this method, you will simply adjust your child’s schedule to 15 minutes LATER and continue to shift every 3 days. If your child takes a nap at 9:00AM, you will put them down for a nap at 9:15 for 3 consecutive days and then continue to shift from there.
If your baby is not reacting well to this, stop shifting the time from where you are or even go back to the few days before when things were working well with your baby.
Tip #3 Do Absolutely Nothing
Just go with the flow! Like I said, you know your baby best. You can do absolutely nothing and see how they adjust. If your baby wakes up that hour earlier, which would be their regular wake up time, try letting them hang in their cribs/beds for 15 minutes and then go in and get them.
Tip #4 Blackout Shades
Black out Shades are your best friend! You never want light coming through to keep your baby awake or wake them in the morning. I love these as you can take them anywhere.

Tip #5 Be Patient
Just like adults, it takes some time for your kids to get used to the time change. Know that all will be okay and before you know it your bodies as well as theirs will be in sync with the time change.
